PROFILE

The School is owned and run by Mrs. Sandra Whitford who was head of St. Christopher’s School for 21 years, initially of the Infant School which grew into a full Primary School of some 650 children and, following the reorganisation of the school, head of both Budaiya and Awali Infant Schools. Her main area of experience is with children 2 – 11 with a particular interest in 2 – 7 year olds. She has experience of teaching and organising English language programmes and has a great interest in promoting the involvement of parents in the children’s education.

The School opened in January 2008 with 17 children and, mainly through personal recommendations, grew to over 50 strong by April 2008. By June, with over 80 on the list for September, it was quite clear that larger premises were needed and fortunately the next door villa became vacant. The walls and fencing between the two villas were taken down and a large play area was created. The school now has a large paved play area, two smaller enclosed paved areas and two grassed areas. The re furbishing of the villas included provision of new child friendly bathrooms, brightly painted paintwork both inside and outside on the boundary fencing, safety gates on staircases and in between all the play areas, the creation of a library, additional air conditioning and latterly the building of an all purpose hall which is used for P.E., concerts, assemblies etc. An additional large classroom was opened in September 2010.
